unu is an urban mobility brand based in Berlin. Our first product was the unu Scooter Classic, an electric scooter with portable batteries and was launched in 2014. Our products are sold both directly to consumers and business customers, making them accessible to everyone and resulting in fair prices by eluding dealership costs. In 2019, we launched the second generation of our scooter: The unu Scooter was designed inhouse and completely re-developed with our partners in Germany. The new scooter offers space for two people, as well as the largest storage space and one of the fastest acceleration values in the electric scooter segment. With its own app and integrated display, it also offers innovative smart features such as navigation, theft protection and digital key sharing.
After a successful rollout in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and France, unu is now expanding into further European countries.
With already more than 100 creative challengers striving for simply perfect solutions we are now looking for a strong VP Design to join the team in unu’s headquarter in Berlin.
Lead Creative team
Hire, lead and mentor the Creative team across disciplines at unu: Digital Product Designers, Industrial Designers, Service Designers, Communication Designers & Writers & Content Producers. As you’re responsible for the creative output of the organization, you’ll need to be available as a sparring partner and mentor for your team as they work on projects across the organization.
Own brand strategy and design guidelines
You’ll own unu’s brand strategy which is captured in the Brand Book and will be responsible for continuously challenging and evolving it with your team. You’ll also own the design guidelines (derived from brand strategy) for all creative disciplines (comm design, product design, etc).
Represent Design in leadership
As Creative Team lead, you’ll represent Design in unu’s leadership team and contribute to unu’s company decision-making from a Brand/Creative perspective.
Manage Operational Design Work
You support your team so they are adequately integrated into processes across the organization.
Coordinate Brand Building
As Creative team lead, your most important responsibility is to build a holistic brand vision for unu and, with your team, roll it out onto unu’s touch points by collaborating with teams across the entire organization (marketing, website, point of sale, products, support & service). To do so, you will constantly monitor unu’s touch points and start initiatives to evolve them.
Be unu’s brand voice
You’ll represent unu’s brand and spread unu’s story externally, e.g. at events, in interviews, etc
WHAT YOU BRING
You developed holistic brand strategies for relevant companies before (brand strategy that translates into culture and all company touch points).
You transformed brand strategy into roadmap that is aligned with the strategy of the rest of the organization.
You transformed strategic roadmap items into clearly scoped projects.
You are able to proactively push your agenda forward, while autonomously and efficiently prioritizing the roadmap as you and your team move
You have significant experience in building holistic design systems/brand guidelines across design disciplines: product, communication & copy, services, spaces, etc
You have experience in leading and mentoring designers across disciplines, including team leads (product designers, communication designers). You have ideally held a top-level design management position before.
You have a holistic understanding of design and gathered expertise across design disciplines (product, communication, services)
You have experience in collaborating with designers’ peers across the organization (marketing & sales, product management, ..)
You are a proven great communicator and know how to comprehensibly convey your position and ideas to top-level management stakeholders
You are able to bring brands to life through fantastic storytelling – both within the organization and outside of it
You ideally have experience with working in/for a multi-market organization
Fluency in the English language, German is not a requirement but a plus
